Securelle® and Lips - for
greater Patient Well-being
Fire precautions are of crucial importance in situations where infirm and, in some cases, helpless people are involved. This is why textiles, bed linen, pillows, mattresses and filling materials used in sick rooms and other rooms where these people are cared for have to comply with certain regulations. Another important question is whether thorough cleaning of these materials is simple and inexpensive. Safety and hygiene are key factors affecting not only the state of health but also the general well-being of the patients, whilst cost-cutting opportunities are very satisfying for the management. Textile products made of Securelle® have proved their worth in this respect. Securelle® is a brand name for fire-resistive fabrics from ADVANSA, Europe's leading manufacturer of polyester. Securelle® fabrics are extremely versatile and can, for example, be used for curtains, drapes and furniture coverings, bed linen and other textiles. They are extremely safe, fulfilling the most important attainable European fire-resistance norms for polyester fibers, for example EN 13772 and EN 13773 (for decorative fabrics and curtains), EN 1021 (for furniture coverings), and EN 14533 (bed linen and bedding materials), as well as the similar regulations in force in other countries.
The Dutch corporation LIPS Textielservice, a leading supplier of laundering and hire services for bed linen and other textile products, features Securelle® in its product range. LIPS specializes in services to the health care sector and to other clients with similar requirements. Based in the Dutch town of Alkmeren, it has developed over the last 30 years from a local, owner-managed laundry into a modern textile hire service corporation with a staff of over 300 working at its branches in the Netherlands and the adjoining regions of Germany. Its range of services includes external and internal laundering and organization of supply, and also hire of bed linen and other textiles, plus a comprehensive curtain service. Amsterdam's Central Hospital and the General Hospital in Utrecht are two large regular users of the LIPS services and use fire-resistive bed linen and curtains made of Securelle®.
LIPS Textielservice Purchasing Manager Ronald Oostveen, explains "Before deciding in favor of Securelle®, we tested a selection of fire-resistive fabrics. Securelle® came out best. It did not lose its fire-resistive properties, even after repeated washing and drying in industrial machines, and had had the further spin-off advantage of being extremely color-fast. Another plus-point is that these textiles are exceptionally soft and feel like cotton to the touch. This enhances patient well-being when used in pillows, sheets and other bed linen. Securelle® textiles are exceptionally versatile and have a very esthetic appearance."
Securelle® is odorless and does not increase the risk of allergy to house dust. It is washable at 95°C (203°F), can be tumbler-dried and bears the Öko-Tex 100 test seal confirming its ecological compatibility.
LIPS Textielservice obtains its bed linen products from Hulleman Textiel, a corporation based in the Dutch town of Almelo specializing in fire-resistive textile products for the health care, hotel and interior decoration sectors. Hulleman obtains the fire-resistive Securelle® yarn for its fabrics from German weavers Setex Textil GmbH of Hamminkeln.
ADVANSA's development team has also succeeded in combining the fire-resistive properties of Securelle® with the functionality of Teflon® Stain Release Fabric Protector. These two examples of advanced technology, Securelle® and Teflon®, together yield the ideal combination of safety and easy care, enhancing the value of furnishing fabrics and drapes by making them washable at low temperatures and stain-resistant. These fabrics retain the new appearance much longer. Securelle® fabrics containing Teflon® are stain-resistant and have less tendency to pilling and creasing. Their washability ensures that stains are completely removed. Longer intervals between washing and lower wash temperatures mean that Securelle® textiles combined with Teflon® Stain Release also offer additional opportunities to cut costs.
