Sustainable development
Sustainable Development was developed under the auspices of the United Nations as a way for governments to solve some of the world's most pressing problems, such as:
How do we provide for a rapidly growing population without depleting the world's resources and eroding the inheritance of future generations?
The World Commission on Environment and Development led by Brundtland produced a report, Our Common Future, in 1987 which defined the concept:
"Sustainable Development should meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs"
Brundtland recognized the importance of continued economic growth to fund environmental and social improvements. Sustainable Development also means managing resources efficiently and maximizing the benefits we get from them.
Sustainable development balances three principles:
1. The needs of society
2. Economic prosperity
3. Environmental stewardship
ADVANSA is committed to Sustainable Development. We believe that if we are to be successful we must excel in all three elements and that it makes good business sense.
We are learning how best to make sustainability a way of life at ADVANSA and are making progress in all three elements.
