On the 25th International Flock Symposium in Hohenkammer (near Munich) ADVANSA met an international trade audience of the flock industry with a lecture "Plastics under Crossfire - Sustainable Raw Materials for the Flock Industry".
Among other things, ADVANSA supplies fibre raw materials also to the flock industry, focusing on using sustainable PET raw materials from the post-consumer value chain for making products with an improved life cycle assessment. ADVANSA`s portfolio also includes PLA fibres that are biodegradable. ADVANSA has been dealing with recycling for many years. Therefore, the company committed, amongst others, to using secondary raw materials for fibres that are utilized in various end uses with the highest quality requirements.
In his lecture, Frank Heimann from ADVANSA put in context the global sustainability goals of the United Nations. A 2030 Agenda was adopted by all member states in September 2015 at a UN summit achieving the goals within a term of 15 years (until 2030). With the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the international community expresses its conviction that global challenges can only be solved “if everybody pulls together.” (BMZ)
The core of 2030 Agenda forms a catalogue of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG´s). In his presentation, Frank Heimann focused on goal 12 "Responsible Consumption and Production" regarding the use of raw materials and the associated environmental impact throughout the entire value chain.
The topics of renewable raw materials, raw materials from the circular economy as well as plastics from bio-based raw materials were also considered. Further, a reference was made to the subject of life cycle assessment and the results of a lifecycle analysis (LCA) using the example of PET fibres from ADVANSA. This analysis clearly identifies the environmental benefits of recycled fibres. The quality aspects of recycled fibres were also considered using the example of fibres for high-quality paper applications.
In conclusion, Mr. Heimann pointed out that technologies, methods, products, customer acceptance, consumer willingness, etc. had long existed to operate in a more sustainable way for the reduction of the global ecological footprint.
